David Hare said:
“It’s thrilling for me to watch Rebecca Lucy Taylor and a brilliant ensemble revive the play that shook the plaster off the ceiling of the Royal Court Theatre just fifty years ago.”
Directed by Daniel Raggett, TEETH ’N’ SMILES will play at the Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited 12-week run from 13 March to 6 June 2026.
Set in the aftermath of 1960s counterculture, TEETH ’N’ SMILES follows Maggie Frisby, once the ferocious voice of a generation, now broke, disillusioned and raging against a world that’s moved on. As a band’s dreams collapse, Maggie powers through the night fuelled by booze, fury and a voice that refuses to die. Fifty years after its explosive debut at the Royal Court, David Hare’s trailblazing play returns to the West End.
Written by David Hare, with music by Nick Bicât and lyrics by Tony Bicât, the production features new additional music and lyrics by Rebecca Lucy Taylor. Design is by Chloe Lamford, with costumes by Alex Mullins, lighting by Matt Daw, sound by Ben and Max Ringham, and music supervision by Liam Godwin. Casting is by Bryony Jarvis-Taylor CDG, with associate direction by George Jibson.
