The beloved love story is finally heading to London’s West End in 2027, becoming the first production to open at the newly renamed theatre. The Notebook is set to make its UK premiere in London’s West End in 2027, bringing the acclaimed stage musical inspired by Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel to British audiences for the first time.
The production will be the inaugural show at the newly renamed Judi Dench Theatre, currently known as the Shaftesbury Theatre. The announcement comes as the original novel celebrates its 30th anniversary, marking three decades since the love story first captured readers’ hearts. Based on Sparks’ 1996 novel, The Notebook follows Allie and Noah, two people from different backgrounds whose passionate relationship is tested by time, circumstance and repeated separation. Despite the obstacles they face, their connection continues to draw them back together. The story became a global phenomenon following the release of the 2004 film adaptation, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Its musical adaptation subsequently made its Broadway debut in 2024, earning further recognition with composer Ingrid Michaelson receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album.
With music and lyrics by Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter, the musical is directed by Michael Greif and Schele Williams, with choreography by Katie Spelman. The creative team brings together established talent from across theatre, music and design to reimagine the much-loved romance for the London stage.
Previews are scheduled to begin on 10 March 2027, ahead of an official opening night on 13th April. The production is currently booking until 11 December 2027. Tickets start at £20, with 50,000 tickets available for £50 or less. Standing tickets will also be offered for £15, providing additional opportunities for audiences to experience the production.
The London production will feature music supervision and arrangements by Carmel Dean, scenic design by David Zinn and Brett J. Banakis, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Ben Stanton and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.
The wider creative team also includes hair and wig design by Mia Neal, orchestrations by John Clancy and Dean, co-vocal arrangements by Michaelson and Dean, music direction by Jim Henson, and casting by Jill Green Casting.
The production is presented by Kevin McCollum, Kurt Deutsch and Jamie Wilson Productions.
Casting for the London production is expected to be announced shortly.
